Caring for your ring

Your Wanaka ring is crafted from sterling silver with a brushed finish. In order to look after your ring, it is important that you read the following care instructions as sterling silver is known to naturally tarnish overtime, and can react in certain environments.

Care
- Store your ring separate to other jewellery to avoid tarnishing and scratching.
- There are chemicals in pools and thermal hot springs that can tarnish and scratch the ring, therefore remove your ring while swimming.
- Take your ring off while participating in sport activities, using cleaning products or working in the garden.
- if you use make up, perfume or hairspray, apply these products before putting on your ring.

Cleaning
Your ring can be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth. As most silver polishing cloths have specific product in them to clean silver, this can be a great way to remove tarnish. The following are two at home methods that can be used at your own risk to remove grime or tarnishing.

- Leave your ring in a mixture of diluted detergent and warm water for a few minutes, then use a soft tooth brush to remove any grime. Rinse in warm water and then dry with your polishing cloth.

- Toothpaste is a great product to use for cleaning sterling silver, however, it needs to be used with caution as some toothpastes have extras that are too abrasive for your sterling silver. We recommend using a toothpaste that has no whitening agents, baking soda or tartar control. Apply the paste to your ring, let it sit for 2-3 minutes, polish off with a tissue and finally rinse in warm water. You may need to repeat this process a few times if the ring is strongly tarnished.

Alternatively, Hagerty silver cleaning products are suggested to work well to remove tarnish, or take your ring into your local jeweller to be polished up at your own cost.
